Representative Breedlove out of touch with his district.
"Democratic State Representative Steve Breedlove has done his best to mislead his constituents into thinking that he is a conservative and shares his district's conservative values. Regrettably, his actual record in the state legislature shows that he values the policies favored by liberal special interest groups over the will of his constituents," Republican Party of Sebastian County Chairman Jake Files said in a statement today.
"Steve Breedlove ran for the state House two years ago as a social conservative. But after being elected, Breedlove helped kill legislation that would have prevented homosexuals from adopting children and serving as foster parents, a measure strongly supported by the people of Arkansas and an initiated act on the ballot in November. Breedlove has been rewarded for his work in the Legislature: the ultraliberal Kathy Webb of Little Rock has been a strong supporter of Breedlove's reelection. Webb has been a significant donor to Representative Breedlove's campaign. Rep. Breedlove should explain why he failed to vote against a gay adoption ban and why he has been an ally of one of Arkansas's most liberal legislators," Files said.
"Steve Breedlove is out of touch with the values of his constituents. His actions on last session's gay adoption legislation vote line up perfectly with Barack Obama's views on gay adoption *. The Republican Party is proud to have John VanGorder as our nominee for state representative in district 67. John is a conservative who will reflect the values of his constituents, and you can trust him to be the same person in Little Rock that he is in his district," Files said.

Breedlove is going to have to answer voters on why he didn’t vote to ban gay adoption when he had the chance. His release says that he was on his way home to lead a bible study during the committee vote, but he is leaving out the fact that there was a committee meeting that same morning where he could have voted for the ban. Breedlove’s excuse that he was doing the “Lord’s” work rings kind of hollow when you know that he skipped two votes on this issue. Was he leading a prayer breakfast that morning? Is that why he skipped the first committee vote? Additionally, it is hard to believe that Breedlove is serious about banning gay adoption when he takes political contributions from Kathy Webb. Webb is an open lesbian and has been the legislature’s most outspoken opponent of banning gay adoption. Why would Kathy Webb give money to Breedlove if she thought he really wanted to ban gay adoption.
